Taking up Space Panel

Taking up Space Panel

TETON COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH will host a Taking Up Space Panel on Thursday, June 18.

The outdoor community often carries an unspoken pressure to look like a "traditional athlete," creating an exclusionary and often toxic standard for those who spend time outside. These pressures can lead to a complicated relationship with food, fueled by the misconception that eating less will make us faster, stronger, or more "fit."

We believe this topic isn't discussed nearly enough, despite affecting so many members in our community. To help change the narrative, the Teton County Health Department, Womemtum, and Women in the Tetons are hosting Taking Up Space, an intimate and honest community conversation at Black Diamond on Thursday, June 18.

🩷The event is free, but please register HERE.

Speakers include athlete Madison Ostergren, licensed therapist and registered dietitian Mary Ryan, registered dietitian Eden Morris, Ride Force founder Taylor-Ann Smith, and Womentum program director Elisabeth Rohrbach.

The panel will share lived experiences, practical resources, and pathways of support for navigating body image and disordered eating.

All are welcome whether you are navigating your own experience or showing up for others. Professional clinicians will be present in the case you need someone
to talk to during or after the event.

Please join us as we dismantle these harmful stereotypes and return to the pure joy of moving outdoors—exactly as we are.

Doors open at 5:30 PM. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

Since its inception, Old Bill’s has brought an astounding $280 million philanthropic dollars to our community. These funds are busy feeding the hungry, supporting the sick and elderly, teaching kids to read, protecting wildlife, building affordable housing, enriching our lives through the arts, and touching the lives of everyone in Teton County. Wilderness First Aid Course

"Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is one of the most popular medical courses for beginners and advanced users alike. It creates a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care and when taken in secession skills are reinforced.

Wilderness First Aid is designed to meet the needs of first-aid training for anyone who works, travels, or spends time in rural or wilderness areas. This 16-hour course examines the role of outdoor professionals in wilderness medicine and the response, care and rescue of outdoor participants in non-urban environments. It provides intensive, in-depth training in the areas of patient assessment system, environmental injuries/ conditions, anaphylaxis, lifting/moving/extrication, patient carries, and backcountry medicine. The curriculum covers standards of care for trauma and medical patients for urban situations with additional protocols for remote situations. Emphasis is placed on prevention and decision-making.

As with all our curriculum we incorporate a biological understanding of the nervous system’s intuitive and emotional workings and the importance of living a heart centered approach to life.

Certifications upon completion include: Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO) Wilderness First Aid. To stay current, you must repeat this course every two years. CPR is a separate component that is necessary for a WFA certification to be valid."
